Drone Attack Hits 'Druzhba' Pipeline Storage Tank

According to Novyny.live: Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal reported that a Russian drone struck a major storage tank on the 'Druzhba' oil pipeline. The tank, with a capacity of 75,000 cubic meters of oil, contained approximately 25,000 cubic meters at the time of the attack. The resulting fire led to a partial transfer of the oil into the pipeline system itself. The 'Druzhba' pipeline is a critical artery for transporting Russian oil to parts of Central Europe, making it a strategic target.

The state-owned company 'Naftogaz' is currently finishing its damage assessment of the affected facility.

"There was a hit by a Russian drone on one of the largest reservoirs," Denys Shmyhal stated, emphasizing that "this is not visible from the outside, but it is a large volume of work."

Ukrainian Response and International Coordination

In response to the attack, Kyiv has halted the transit of Russian oil through its territory. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed the situation with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. Separately, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced the formation of a joint commission with Slovakia to evaluate the condition of the 'Druzhba' pipeline. This incident highlights the ongoing vulnerability of Europe's energy infrastructure to military conflict.

These developments underscore the severity of the situation caused by the ongoing war and its impact on regional energy security. The assault on critical infrastructure demonstrates the threat military actions pose to energy supplies and could strain economic relations between countries dependent on this oil route.

  • The 'Druzhba' pipeline's critical role for the European energy market.
  • The significance of such incidents for regional stability.
