Ukraine warns that Russia plans to connect Zaporizhzhia NPP to its grid: threat of radiation catastrophe

According to inkorr.com: Problems with electricity supply continue at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant due to aggressive actions by Russia. The occupiers are trying to connect the plant to their energy grid, which has already resulted in the tenth instance of power outages that have lasted for four days. This was reported by 'Glavkom', citing the words of Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.

Problems with connection

The installation of 200 km of power lines to connect the Zaporizhzhia NPP to the Russian energy system poses serious threats and risks. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has already described the situation as 'deeply troubling'. In addition, Sybiha emphasizes the irresponsibility of Russia's actions and the danger of restarting the plant.

Security risks

Due to the power shutdown, the Zaporizhzhia NPP is currently operating on emergency diesel generators, which may negatively affect the safety of the plant. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his concern about the risk of a radiation accident caused by Russia's actions at the Zaporizhzhia NPP during the UN General Assembly.

Problems at the Zaporizhzhia NPP remain on the international community's agenda, as the safety of nuclear facilities is critically important for the entire region. Russia's actions not only raise concerns in Ukraine but also create broader international repercussions, as the risk of an accident could threaten many countries in Europe.
