Russia prepares new strike on Kyiv

According to ТСН: Yesterday, several high-ranking Russian officials resumed their threatening rhetoric regarding Ukraine. Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergey Lavrov stated that the 'Russian Armed Forces have determined the time and targets for the strike.' In turn, MP Andrii Kolesnik emphasized that the strike 'was severe.' This possible attack has been referred to by Russian authorities as a 'response' to the alleged strike by Ukraine on Putin's residence, although official Kyiv denied this information.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on these threats, believing that Russia is likely preparing the ground for an attack on the capital, specifically targeting state buildings.

Several analysts add that the attack could occur between December 31 and January 2. It is worth noting that a year ago, during these days, Russia already struck drones on the government quarter of Kyiv, leading to destruction, including the National Bank of Ukraine building, where neurobiologist Igor Zyma and his wife, biochemist Olesya Sokur, were killed.

Assessment of the possible Russian strike

Military-political observer of the 'Information Resistance' group Oleksandr Kovalenko noted in a comment that, unfortunately, the probability of a powerful strike cannot be ruled out. He emphasized: 'Considering the means of destruction that the Russians have, the strike will not differ from the maximum conducted earlier against Ukraine.'

Kovalenko also added: 'If we talk about a concentrated strike on a specific city, say, Kyiv, it will become a powerful direction for large masses of destruction. Compared to past events, enduring such an attack will be challenging.' He stressed that the Russians often try to carry out strikes during the New Year holidays, so these days may become critical.

The analyst noted that from the Russian military side, active actions should be expected: 'All means available to the Russian occupiers will be used. We will not see anything unexpected. They may use the 'Oreshnik,' although the availability of this missile is in question.'

Provocation regarding an attack on Putin's residence

Regarding the statements of Russian officials about a possible attack by Ukrainian drones on Putin's residence, Kovalenko commented: 'These provocations regarding an attack on Putin's residence are primarily aimed at Washington. It is an information campaign aimed at discrediting the President of Ukraine in the eyes of American leader Donald Trump.' In his opinion, such statements serve not only to terrorize Ukraine but also have broader goals.

Recall that earlier ISW refuted Lavrov's statements about the alleged attack on Putin's residence.

In the current situation, it is essential to be aware that Russia continues to play on the psychological aspects of the war, using threats and disinformation. Monitoring events in the region, including possible attacks, keeps the question of Ukraine's preparedness for possible scenarios relevant. The New Year holiday days may become crucial in the development of the situation, so active actions and careful responses from the Ukrainian military should be anticipated.
