Ukrainian journalist Vladislav Yesypenko, who worked for 'Radio Free Europe', has finally been freed after four years in a Russian prison. He faced six years behind bars, but now he can once again enjoy his freedom.
"For over four years, Vlad was unlawfully punished for a criminal offense he did not commit. He has paid too high a price for shedding light on the situation in occupied Crimea," said the chief executive of the publication Steve Kapus.
Yesypenko was unlawfully accused of various crimes, but many experts believe he became a victim of his journalistic work. This is an important step for freedom of speech and human rights, and we must avoid similar situations in the future.
The release of Vladislav Yesypenko is a significant victory for freedom of speech in Russia and a confirmation of the need to protect journalists who risk their lives to reveal the truth and fight for human rights.
