Why Russia's Latest Deadline to Capture the Donbas Is Unachievable

According to UATV: Russia's active military campaign in Ukraine has failed to yield significant gains for its forces. Since the start of November 2022, Russian occupying troops have intensified operations on the front lines, yet again falling short of their stated objectives. A new deadline for the capture of the Donbas region has now been set for April 1, 2023. This renewed push comes as Russia seeks a tangible victory after months of costly and stalled advances.

The Situation on the Front Lines

The summer-autumn offensive campaign did not deliver the expected results for the Russian occupiers. The enemy's strategic offensive, which lasted from April to the end of October 2022, failed to achieve its planned goals. The first phase of the current operation has lasted about a month, but the results remain unsatisfactory.

"The summer strategic offensive operation, planned in terms of resources and timing, has failed" - Pavlo Lakiychuk

Despite the new timeframe set by Russian President Vladimir Putin, the occupiers have no real results to show. As retired Major General Mykola Malomuzh emphasized, "the occupiers have no real results." Meanwhile, Pavlo Lakiychuk noted that "the result is that the second and third echelons, which were intended to exploit success, are being worn down in battles near Pokrovsk, Konstantynivka, and in the Lyman direction." This indicates that Russian forces are facing serious difficulties on the front, undermining their ability to meet new objectives.

The situation on the front remains complex and points to the low effectiveness of the Russian command, which is incapable of implementing its assigned tasks even with a new deadline. The continuation of hostilities in Ukraine, particularly in the Donbas, signals the protracted nature of the conflict and the likelihood of further military clashes, which could have serious consequences for the region.

At the same time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to demonstrate resilience and the capability to resist Russian aggression, which may influence the strategic situation in the future.
