Russia has handed down over 200 verdicts for treason: what is happening in the country.
According to inkorr.com: During the first half of 2023, courts in Russia issued over 200 verdicts in cases related to treason and espionage. According to information provided by the Foreign Intelligence Service, most of those convicted were punished specifically for treason.
Rise of Repression
This year has been marked by an increase in the number of convictions for crimes related to national security. Experts believe this indicates a strengthening of repressive policies in Russia. In the occupied regions, local residents reportedly express dissatisfaction due to increasing danger and worsening living conditions.
The number of convictions for treason and espionage, as well as cases of terrorism, is relentlessly rising. The situation in the controlled territories suggests a worsening of the socio-economic crisis in the region.
Government Actions
The Kremlin is concerned about the possible consequences of the return of soldiers and former prisoners, as this could lead to an exacerbation of the criminal situation and negative sentiments in society. The government is also planning to introduce new tax levies, which will seriously affect the majority of the population and businesses as a way to cover costs related to the war.
Thus, there is a trend towards the deepening of crisis phenomena both in the judicial system and in the economy under the influence of the Russian authorities.
