Russia has legalized the confiscation of Ukrainian property in occupied territories.
According to inkorr.com: In Russia, a decision has been made to legalize the seizure of property belonging to Ukrainians in occupied territories. According to the Center for Countering Disinformation, a special commission of the Russian government has supported the proposal to recognize as 'ownerless property' those objects whose owners are not established or for which there are no documents. Such property will be transferred for use to the occupying administrations or 'new residents' — military personnel, law enforcement officers, officials, and teachers whom Russia is relocating to the occupied areas.
Issue of Property Appropriation
The policy of appropriating property in occupied territories is aimed at displacing Ukrainians and populating these areas with citizens of Russia. This has been noted by the Center for Countering Disinformation.
Russification and Threat to Identity
Moreover, the Russian authorities are implementing a strategy of Russification in occupied territories, starting with kindergartens. Children are taught the Russian language and gradually Russian words replace Ukrainian ones, aiming to destroy Ukrainian identity. There are also plans to create a youth Stakhanovite movement, which involves forced labor for students at enterprises and participation in fake competitions.
Experts say that such actions may lead to a significant deterioration of the situation in the occupied territories.
These actions by Russia indicate systematic attempts to consolidate its influence over the conquered territories and displace the Ukrainian-speaking population. Items deemed 'ownerless' may actually belong to thousands of Ukrainians who are now forced to leave their homes. Under the Russification policy approved by the Russian authorities, elements of Ukrainian culture are facing the threat of disappearance.
