Russia's Ballistic Missile Barrage Hits Record High in January 2026.
Russia's Escalated Aggression in January 2026
According to TSN.ua: Russian forces launched a record 91 ballistic missiles at Ukraine in January 2026, marking the highest monthly total since the full-scale invasion began. This surge in attacks demonstrates a significant and sustained increase in intensity, continuing despite ongoing defensive efforts. The winter period often sees intensified strikes targeting energy and civilian infrastructure.
During a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (the 'Ramstein' format), Ukraine's Ministry of Defense announced the urgent delivery of missiles from the stockpiles of European partners. This move highlights efforts to bolster the country's defensive capabilities in response to the growing threat.
Fresh Russian Assault on February 16, 2026
On February 16, 2026, Russia carried out another major assault, employing four 'Zircon' anti-ship missiles, an 'Iskander-M' ballistic missile, a Kh-31P guided air-to-surface missile, and 62 drones. In this context, a representative of the Ukrainian defense agency, Fedorov, stated:
"The most effective countermeasure against ballistic threats is the PAC-3 missile for Patriot systems. We critically need the means to intercept ballistic missiles, as Russia aims to destroy our critical infrastructure this winter," - Fedorov.
The rising intensity of Russian attacks points to a clear escalation of the conflict and underscores Ukraine's urgent need for reliable air defense systems. Deliveries of new missiles and Patriot systems could prove decisive for protecting critical infrastructure and civilians, a concern that becomes especially acute during the winter months when national resources are under additional strain. Cooperation with international partners in this area emphasizes the importance of collective security in the face of modern threats.
