Russia stopped the oil tanker Green Admire, flying the flag of Liberia, which left the Estonian port and was heading on an agreed route through Russian waters. This has become a previously unknown phenomenon, reports "Glavkom" citing ERR.

According to information from the Estonian Transport Department, the ship Green Admire, under the command of the Greek company Aegean Shipping, left the port of Sillamäe on May 17 at 18:30. The destination is Rotterdam, where the cargo of shale oil was supposed to be delivered.

The Estonian Transport Department reported that the ship left the port of Sillamäe, located in the eastern part of the country, on May 17 at approximately 18:30 and set off on the usual shipping route through the territorial sea of the Russian Federation to the northern part of the Gulf of Finland. After that, the tanker was supposed to head west.

However, Russian authorities stopped the tanker after midnight and directed it to Gogland Island, where it remains anchored to this day. This surprised Estonian officials, as Russia had not previously detained oil tankers heading from Estonian ports.

Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna stated that in the future, vessels will be directed via a different route. According to him, the incident has already been reported to Estonia's allies.
