Russia has classified data on mineral resources: what it means for security.
According to inkorr.com: The Government of the Russian Federation has decided to prohibit the publication of open maps containing information about mineral resources, claiming that this is necessary to ensure 'national security'. This decision was made at a meeting of the committee on ecology, natural resources, and environmental protection.
According to the Deputy Head of the State Policy and Regulation Department in the field of geology and mineral resources utilization of the Ministry of Natural Resources, restricting access to information about mineral deposits on the internet is necessary in light of national security.
From this moment on, Rosnedra is not allowed to provide information about mineral resources, which may complicate the acquisition of important information for the development and construction of various facilities.
Interestingly, the Russian side offered the United States rights to minerals located in temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. This happened during negotiations on the extraction of rare earth metals between the two countries.
This decision by Russia has caused considerable resonance as the restriction of information about natural resources can significantly impact ecological and economic processes. Against the backdrop of ongoing international negotiations and tensions in relations with Western countries, the situation around mineral resources takes on a new tone.
