Coordinated Assault on Kharkiv

According to UATV: On January 26, 2023, Russian military forces launched a combined attack on the city of Kharkiv and its surrounding region. The assault resulted in civilian casualties and inflicted damage on educational facilities, residential buildings, and critical infrastructure. The shelling, which impacted several city districts, left three people injured.

This attack is part of a wider pattern of strikes on Ukrainian cities that has intensified since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022. The damage from the strike included:

  • One kindergarten;
  • 20 residential buildings, with over 270 windows shattered.

A lyceum for 164 children with disabilities also sustained damage.

The attack employed 'Tornado-S' multiple launch rocket systems and 'Shahed'-type drones. Following the bombardment, the city was left without electricity. Oleg Synehubov, head of the regional military administration, reported severe damage to the energy infrastructure and stated that all emergency crews were working on-site to swiftly address the consequences.

'Three rockets struck an energy facility in the Industrial District, which supplies power to the city, and serious damage has been recorded there as well.' Ihor Terekhov, Mayor of Kharkiv
