Russian Missile and Drone Barrage Strikes Kyiv, Dnipro, and Odesa, Causing Casualties and Damage.
Major Russian Assault Targets Ukrainian Cities
According to TSN.ua: On February 12, 2023, Russia launched a large-scale attack against three major Ukrainian cities: Kyiv, Dnipro, and Odesa. The assault involved ballistic missiles and kamikaze drones, resulting in civilian casualties and significant damage to residential buildings and critical infrastructure. This coordinated strike represents a continuation of Russia's tactic of targeting urban centers far from the front lines.
Widespread Damage and Civilian Harm
The attack on Kyiv proved particularly destructive. Two people were injured, with one hospitalized in serious condition, while the other received outpatient care, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko. The strikes damaged private homes, including a 16-story apartment building, causing alarm among residents.
In Dnipro, the assault caused extensive destruction. Four people were injured, and the bombardment ignited several fires across the city. Private residences and vehicles were damaged, worsening the situation in the region. As noted by Oleksandr Ganzha, the shelling triggered numerous emergency incidents.
The strike on Odesa led to the destruction of the roof and facade of a nine-story building, injuring one man. Additionally, market pavilions were burned down. In the Odesa region, an energy facility owned by the company DTEK was hit, marking the 31st substation damaged by military actions since the invasion began.
These events underscore the ongoing pattern of armed attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine, raising grave concerns among the population and the international community. The targeting of energy infrastructure is part of a broader strategy that has plunged millions into darkness during winter.
In light of these attacks, and amid a growing tally of infrastructure destruction, urgent questions are again being raised about the safety of Ukraine's civilian population. The international response to these actions will be a critical factor in either escalating the conflict or finding pathways toward a peaceful resolution.
