Ukraine's Critical Infrastructure Under Siege: Russia's 6,000+ Drone Strikes in a Single Month.
Russia's January Assault on Ukraine
According to UATV: In January, Russian forces launched more than 6,000 attacks using drones and other weapons, primarily targeting Ukraine's energy and transport networks. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported the ongoing assaults and emphasized the urgent need to secure the country's airspace. During this period, Russia also deployed approximately 5,500 guided aerial bombs and 158 missiles of various types, illustrating the scale of the bombardment.
Attack Intensity and Defense Requirements
The intensity of the offensive is clear: in just the past week, over 980 attack drones and nearly 1,100 guided aerial bombs were recorded. On the night of February 1st, Russia attacked Ukraine with 90 combat drones, with confirmed strikes hitting nine different locations. This relentless campaign has severely tested Ukraine's air defenses and civilian resilience.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed the critical need for modern defense systems, stating: 'The strikes continue. We need missiles for Patriot, NASAMS, F-16, and other platforms every single day.'
The escalating intensity of Russian attacks highlights a sharpening of the conflict and increases pressure on Ukrainian authorities to ensure a reliable defense. The emphasized need for advanced air defense systems underscores the ongoing relevance of international support for Ukraine amid persistent military threats. These circumstances are likely to influence the future decisions of allies regarding military aid and strategic backing from the international community, as the war enters a new phase of aerial bombardment.
