Up to 15,000 Cubans Recruited by Russia for War, Intelligence Reveals.
Bringing Cubans into the Ukraine Conflict
According to TSN.ua: Russia has enlisted as many as 15,000 Cuban nationals to take part in its war against Ukraine, including for propaganda operations. This information was confirmed by Andriy Chernyak, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine's Ministry of Defense. According to U.S. intelligence assessments, the Kremlin intends to use mercenaries from Cuba for combat missions in Ukraine, and Moscow's broader plans could involve up to 100,000 Cubans.
Andriy Chernyak stated that 'this figure could be around 10, 12, or 15 thousand.'
This underscores Russia's serious efforts to involve foreign citizens in the conflict. Chernyak also emphasized that 'Russia views Cuba as part of its geopolitical sphere of interest.'
Impact on International Relations
Overall, around 25,000 individuals could reinforce hostile units. This development has raised concerns in Ukraine and across the international community, as the involvement of Cubans in combat operations could significantly alter the dynamics of military actions in the region.
The recruitment of Cubans into the Ukraine war highlights the global nature of the conflict and its repercussions for international relations. Cuba, historically aligned with Russia, may serve not only as a source of mercenaries but also as a key component of the Kremlin's strategy in the Americas. This situation could further escalate tensions between Russia and the United States, as Washington may take steps to counter such activities.
