Russian attack on energy facilities

In the past 24 hours, on September 8, Russian troops attacked energy infrastructure in seven regions of Ukraine, including Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Chernihiv regions. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.

As a result of the shelling in the Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv regions, substations and consumers were disconnected, but some of the power supply was restored.

In the Donetsk region, several substations and a mine, where 74 workers were located, were shut down during the attack. All of them were evacuated.

Due to damage to overhead lines in the Chernihiv region, 3,100 subscribers in three settlements were left without electricity.

Work continues to restore power supply.

«Thanks to the efforts of power engineers, the situation in the power system remains stable, but significant damage caused by massive attacks complicates the operation of the power system. Russian troops continue daily shelling of energy infrastructure facilities», - the statement said.

Power engineers urge Ukrainians to consume electricity economically and responsibly, especially during peak hours from 17:00 to 22:00.

It should be noted that DTEK company has invested more than 2.1 billion UAH of its own funds in the repair and restoration of damaged thermal power plants since the beginning of 2024. Preparing for the next heating season, power engineers focused on restoring capacities damaged during the shelling. In total, DTEK invested more than 2.1 billion UAH of its own funds in the repair and restoration of thermal power plants over the first eight months of 2024.

Development of wind energy

The regional director of the Ukrainian branch of Notus Energy, Oleksandr Podprugin, stated that in two years, the development of wind energy would allow abandoning power outage schedules. However, he warns that if other types of generation are relied upon, positive changes can be expected no earlier than in five years. The problem is that the construction of new wind power plants is delayed due to the need to provide banks with guarantees for loan repayment, which are long-term contracts for the supply of electricity to large consumers.
