Russian troops attack Kup'yansk

According to inkorr.com: According to the BBC, Russian units are trying to capture the Ukrainian city of Kup'yansk, using an underground gas pipeline that runs under the Oskil River. This tactic has been used before in Avdiivka and Suja. The coordinator of the offensive is a former Ukrainian officer who switched sides to Russia.

Despite the claims of the Russian command about successes in Kup'yansk, independent sources do not confirm significant enemy advancements. The Russian General Staff speaks of victories, but in fact, Ukrainian forces are conducting counterattacks on the northern outskirts of the city.

Even Russian military bloggers laugh at such 'successes', pointing out that information about 'capturing half the city' only comes from the command of the 6th army, which manipulates data for the General Staff.

The leader of the offensive – a former Ukrainian officer

Lieutenant General Serhiy Storozhenko, who previously served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, switched to Russia after the annexation of Crimea. He heads the 6th army, which is involved in the battles for Kup'yansk. During the annexation, he called on Ukrainian military personnel to switch to the side of Russia, playing a two-front game.

Ukrainian forces hold their positions and continue counterattacks, not allowing Russian units to fully capture the city. Although the use of the gas pipeline for moving reinforcements complicates the situation, Ukrainian forces control the exits from the pipeline, preventing the enemy from advancing into the city.

The situation in Kup'yansk remains tense. The Ukrainian army defends its positions despite numerous challenges. Counteroffensives and the area of combat around the city show that both sides continue to engage in active combat, indicating the importance of Kup'yansk in the overall context of the war.
