Russian spending on traditional Japanese footwear tabi

According to inkorr.com: In August this year, Russians spent about 600 million rubles (297.6 million UAH) on purchasing tabi – traditional Japanese footwear with a split toe, which the people call 'goat slippers'. This amount has become a record high over the past four years, as reported by the Center for the Development of Advanced Technologies (CRPT), drawing attention to it from 'Gromadske' via the Telegram channel SHOT.

Experts note that spending on tabi turned out to be extremely high and exceeded spending on cafes and food during the same period. They were most popular in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Tabi, known as an element of traditional Japanese attire, provide comfort and a natural position for the toes. Recently, these shoes have gained popularity as a fashion accessory. There have been mentions that Russians have started to prefer unconventional models, especially since the 1990s. This may indicate a shift in the consumer preferences of the younger generation, which focuses on values rather than status.

Thus, the spending on tabi in August may indicate a change in the consumer approach of Russians and the growing popularity of unconventional models among the youth.

The increased spending on tabi that reached record levels indicates certain changes in fashion and consumer preferences in Russia. More and more young people tend towards choosing unique and original items that highlight their individuality. This trend may affect the market both in Russia and abroad, where unconventional models are becoming increasingly popular. Therefore, traditional Japanese footwear may soon become an integral part of everyday style not only in Japan but also in many other countries.
