Unauthorized Release of Ammunition During Training Flights

According to TSN.ua: An incident involving the unauthorized release of munitions occurred during training exercises conducted by Russian Su-25 aircraft in Kyrgyzstan. The training sorties were carried out by jets operating from the Russian air base located in Kant, roughly 20 kilometers from Bishkek. The munitions were dropped over the Issyk-Kul region.

Two craters, each with a radius of approximately 2 to 3 meters, were left at the impact site. Early reports indicate no casualties or significant infrastructure damage. The military prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into the matter. Kyrgyzstan's Ministry of Defense clarified that the Russian planes were using inert training munitions, commonly referred to as dummies.

Impact on Military Drills

In response to the incident, the Russian Aerospace Forces command has temporarily halted all training flights at the air base in Kyrgyzstan. It is worth noting that on March 31, a Russian Antonov An-26 military transport plane crashed in Crimea, killing all 29 people on board, including a general from the Russian Northern Fleet's aviation corps.

This event could disrupt future Russian military training operations in the region, especially given the flight suspension. It also highlights the risks associated with using training munitions, which can pose a threat to civilians. The military prosecutor’s investigation is expected to shed more light on the causes and consequences of the incident, which is crucial for ensuring safety on Kyrgyz soil.
