June 28 Attacks on Sumy Region

According to Novyny.live: On June 28, 2023, Russian military operations targeted four communities in Ukraine's Sumy Oblast. The assaults resulted in two fatalities and left five individuals injured.

The victims included a 69-year-old woman killed in the Seredyna-Buda community and a 77-year-old man who died in the Velyka Pysarivka community. Among the wounded was a 65-year-old man from the Khutir-Mykhailivskyi community, along with three residents of the Sumy community:

  • A 48-year-old woman
  • A 72-year-old man
  • A 78-year-old woman

Additionally, a 24-year-old man from the Sumy community and a 59-year-old man from the Vorozhba community sustained injuries during a separate bombardment that occurred on June 27.

These attacks are part of a broader pattern of ongoing strikes across Ukraine. For context, on the same day, Russia also launched drone attacks on Kropyvnytskyi. In a separate incident in Zaporizhzhia, two people were killed and 17 others wounded in a similar assault.

Heightened Tensions Across the Region

The security situation in Sumy Oblast and other areas remains precarious due to relentless shelling that continues to harm civilians.

The bombardments in Sumy Oblast reflect a wider escalation of violence in Ukraine, where non-combatants are increasingly bearing the brunt of military hostilities. These attacks not only claim lives but also damage critical infrastructure, compounding the hardships faced by local residents. Such events underscore the urgent need for sustained international attention to the crisis in Ukraine and for support to those affected by the conflict. Any further escalation risks deepening the country's humanitarian catastrophe.
