Former Uralcaly Head Missing in Cyprus: Police Search for Businessman.
According to ТСН: Vladislav Baumgertner, the former CEO of the Russian company 'Uralcaly', went missing in the Cypriot city of Limassol on January 7. The police have appealed to citizens for help in locating the businessman.
Law enforcement in Cyprus are urging anyone with any information about Baumgertner to contact the Limassol police station or call the hotline.
According to Russian media reports, the last contact with the businessman occurred on the day he went missing. The search operation includes the involvement of civil defense units, as well as aviation — helicopters and drones.
The disappearance of Baumgertner has also been officially confirmed by the Russian embassy.
Who is Vladislav Baumgertner?
From 2003 to 2013, Baumgertner worked at 'Uralcaly', starting as a commercial director and eventually becoming the CEO. After that, he led the company 'Alevo' from March 2017 to October 2021.
In August 2013, Baumgertner was detained in Belarus on suspicion of abusing official powers during a business trip to negotiate with then Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich. This arrest was unprecedented — Baumgertner became the highest-ranking Russian top manager arrested in Belarus in its recent history.
The detention occurred at the airport just before his departure to Russia. After three months in detention and house arrest in Minsk, complicated intergovernmental negotiations for his release garnered significant public and media attention. In November 2013, Baumgertner was extradited to Russia.
It is also worth noting that on January 7, in the Perm region of Russia, during a private helicopter crash, the founder of the transport company 'Tattranscom' Ilyas Gimadutdinov and the head of the motor column Elmira Konyakova were killed. The helicopter, which was conducting an unauthorized flight, got caught in cables at a ski resort. Icing of the engine is considered the preliminary cause of the crash.
The search for Vladislav Baumgertner continues, and the question of his disappearance is attracting attention not only in Ukraine but also in international news. Given the complex circumstances of his past, particularly his detention in Belarus, the situation raises concerns about the safety of businessmen operating in the region.
