Russian Strike on Bohodukhiv Kills Father and Three Children, Pregnant Mother Survives.
Tragedy in Bohodukhiv
According to TSN.ua: A Russian missile strike on the town of Bohodukhiv in the Kharkiv region killed a father and his three young children. Their pregnant mother, Olha Kryvohub, miraculously survived the attack, which occurred on February 10, 2023, on the family's first night in their new home. The victims were two-year-old twins Ivan and Vladyslav, their one-year-old sister Myroslava, and their 34-year-old father, Hryhorii Shykula. This attack is part of a wider pattern of strikes on civilian areas in eastern Ukraine.
The family had moved to Bohodukhiv just one day before the tragedy, on February 9, 2023. Hryhorii Shykula was a demobilized soldier who had served for a year on the front lines. Olha Kryvohub was 35 weeks pregnant at the time of the strike. The attack claimed four lives, with 35-year-old Olha being the sole survivor. She recounted:
'I don't know how I ended up on the roof.'
Community and Official Response
A three-day period of mourning was declared in the community. Oleg Synehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, stated:
'Once again, the russian army has deliberately targeted an ordinary residential house in the middle of the night.'
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also noted that 'this strike and others are evidence that the russian army is preparing not to stop, but to continue fighting.'
The tragedy in Bohodukhiv has caused profound shock among local residents and the wider community. Those killed were:
- Hryhorii Shykula
- Ivan Shykula
- Vladyslav Shykula
- Myroslava Shykula
Olha Kryvohub survived, now left without her family and awaiting the birth of her child.
This event starkly illustrates the human cost of the war in Ukraine, particularly in the country's east. The killing of civilians, especially children, underscores the profound losses inflicted by the conflict. The local community and the nation as a whole are mourning a grief that transcends personal tragedy, becoming a symbol of the suffering caused by war.
