The rubble removal in a building in Odesa continues — searching for people.
As a result of the nighttime attack by the Russian Federation on Odesa, a nine-story residential building suffered significant damage — apartments on the 5th to 8th floors were destroyed. Four people and one pet cat were injured due to the shelling. Currently, residents are coming to their senses and wondering what to do, as many have been left with no windows or doors after the impact.
This is reported by journalists from Novyny.LIVE from the scene.
Without Windows and Doors
The nighttime attack scared Lyudmyla so much that her blood sugar level spiked. Additionally, a shard of glass cut her hand. There were also property damages — the blast wave broke all the doors and blew out the windows in her apartment.
“Everything fell on me, I was very scared. Blood was running from my hand. I got up, everything is falling, exploding, and my sugar rose to such a level that I was shaking all over. The entire floor is in glass, and I was even barefoot, in bed...,” says Lyudmyla.
The House Seems to Have Jumped
Zoya was in bed during the drone attack. When the alarm sounded, she did not go down to the shelter as she was already asleep. After the attack, her apartment also had no windows or doors left.
“When it hit, our house seemed to jump. Then we saw that there was a fire on the 6th floor. We were terrified, our hearts were racing,” says Zoya.
Evacuated with Cats
Yevheniya's apartment was left without doors due to the attack. The woman lives on the 6th floor. During the nighttime attack, she had to quickly run to the shelter with her two cats that she takes care of. The resident of the building says: she is glad that she survived and that the animals were not harmed.
“It’s very scary because during the shelling you just don’t understand where to run. Thank God we are alive. And our cats are alive, although scared,” says Yevheniya.
An operational headquarters has been opened in the Prymorskyi district, where people can come for consultations on receiving aid. Officials promised residents of the destroyed apartments temporary housing.
“We have such hostels for them to stay here. Also, there are staff in the headquarters to help residents with explanations regarding the documents needed to receive compensation for housing rental,” says Andriy Mishuk, the first deputy head of the Prymorskyi district administration.
The Prosecutor's Office Has Opened a Case
The Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office has initiated a pre-trial investigation under Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (committing war crimes). Currently, the scene is being examined, the full extent of the damage and the scale of the destruction are being established. All of this is being documented by law enforcement.
Rubble Removal Continues
The number of injured residents has now increased to 4 people. Rescuers are continuing to clear the rubble, as there may still be people under the ruins of the building. Therefore, the search and rescue operation is still ongoing.
