Ryanair Sets Conditions for Ukraine Return: Demands Airport Fee Discounts.
Ryanair's Statement on Resuming Ukraine Flights
According to TSN.ua: Ryanair has announced it will not restart flights to Ukraine unless it receives substantial discounts on airport fees. The airline's CEO, Michael O'Leary, emphasized that significant reductions in state-imposed charges are essential for the rapid growth and rebuilding of the country's air traffic. Ryanair is prepared to resume service to Ukraine within 4–6 weeks after the war ends. The airline industry has been closely watching for signals about the post-war recovery of Ukraine's aviation market.
Company Plans and Other Carriers
The company also plans to launch approximately 40 routes from European cities, which would enable it to carry up to 5 million passengers annually. All commercial air traffic to and from Ukraine was completely suspended following Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022. Previously, Wizz Air stated its intention to return to the Ukrainian market after hostilities cease. Additionally, Poland's national carrier, LOT Polish Airlines, has expressed readiness to resume regular passenger flights to Ukraine.

Therefore, Ryanair's decision regarding the resumption of flights to Ukraine highlights the importance of economic conditions for restoring the country's air connectivity. Discounts on airport fees could become a critical factor in attracting international airlines, which would, in turn, aid the recovery of Ukraine's tourism flow and economy. Other carriers, such as Wizz Air and LOT, are also showing interest in returning, which may indicate the potential for restoring air service in the region after the conflict ends.
