The Financial Penalties for Ukrainian Soldiers Who Desert Their Unit.
Consequences for Soldiers Who Desert Their Unit
According to Novyny.live: Military personnel who desert their unit without authorization face significant financial penalties, according to lawyer Yuriy Aivazyan. This act of abandoning one's post results in the immediate loss of salary, benefits, and social guarantees provided by the state.
From the moment a soldier deserts, all monetary compensation from the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) is halted. The individual forfeits rights to various privileges, guarantees, and compensations that are normally available while on active duty. This period of absence does not count toward their service record, which can have a detrimental effect on their future military career and pension eligibility.
Specific Financial Repercussions of Desertion
Monthly performance bonuses are also withheld for the month in which the desertion occurs. However, Yuriy Aivazyan clarifies that upon the soldier's return to service, bonus payments resume in full for subsequent months. Crucially, no bonuses are paid for:
- The month in which the violation was committed,
- The entire duration of the unauthorized absence, including the month of return.
Therefore, service members must understand that desertion carries severe financial consequences, including the loss of regular pay and all associated bonuses. This policy underscores the legal and contractual obligations of military service during a time of national defense. The loss of this income and social safety net can profoundly impact the well-being of the individual and their family.
This information is vital for all military personnel, serving as a stark reminder of the serious repercussions of evading duty. Adherence to service regulations is essential to maintain personal stability and professional standing within the armed forces.
