Ukraine's Anti-Corruption Prosecutor Proposes Legal Reforms to End Court Delays.
Legal Reforms Aimed at Halting Drawn-Out Court Proceedings
According to Novyny.live: The head of Ukraine's Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO), Oleksandr Kravchenko, has announced the preparation of legislative amendments designed to prevent the deliberate prolongation of court cases. These proposals, which have already been submitted to the government, seek to refine procedural rules within the judicial system. This initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen the rule of law and improve judicial efficiency in Ukraine.
The proposed changes would halt the statute of limitations from the moment a case is submitted to the court. According to Kravchenko, this measure is intended to remove the incentive for the defense to artificially delay proceedings.
"The proposed amendments should act as a safeguard, guaranteeing that after a prosecutor's decision, a case will be brought to its logical conclusion," stated Oleksandr Kravchenko.
Urgent Need for Procedural Reform
Kravchenko also presented the public with the results of the work carried out by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and SAPO in the second half of 2025. He noted that approximately 30% of criminal proceedings in Ukraine are closed without consequence after being sent to court. These figures underscore the critical need for reforming procedural norms to improve the country's judicial landscape.
If implemented, these changes could mark a significant step in Ukraine's fight against corruption, as protracted court cases often lead to impunity for offenders. Reforming procedural rules may not only accelerate the review of criminal cases but also bolster public trust in the justice system. Successful adoption of this initiative could lead to an overall improvement in the judicial system and a reduction in cases being dismissed without proper resolution.
