Ukrainian Security Service Busts Draft Evasion Ring, Seizes $300,000 from Military Medical Board Head.
Draft Evasion Scheme Uncovered in Dnipropetrovsk Region
According to Novyny.live: The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has exposed a large-scale scheme to avoid military conscription in the Dnipropetrovsk region. During searches at the residence of the head of the Military Medical Commission (VLC), authorities discovered over $300,000. This sum is believed to be part of the illicit proceeds from issuing fraudulent medical exemption certificates, which were sold for approximately $2,500 each. This case highlights the ongoing challenges of corruption within state institutions during wartime.
The investigation has documented more than 20 instances of bribery, confirming the organized nature of the criminal activity. The head of the commission and an accomplice have been formally notified of suspicion for crimes under the criminal code. The suspects face up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Investigation Continues
The probe is ongoing, with law enforcement continuing to gather evidence to prove the individuals' involvement in the alleged crimes. The exposure of this scheme demonstrates the SBU's efforts to combat both draft evasion and corruption in government bodies.
This incident underscores the serious problem of mobilization avoidance in Ukraine, particularly under the conditions of war. The Security Service is actively working to identify and shut down corrupt schemes that threaten national security. The investigation could have far-reaching consequences for other participants in similar schemes and may impact public trust in medical and military institutions.
