SBU detained a GRU agent in the Ministry of Defense: how he adjusted Russian strikes in Dnipropetrovsk region.
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained a Russian military intelligence (GRU) agent. The traitor turned out to be a mobilized fighter of the combat brigade of the State Special Transport Service of the Ministry of Defense.
The SBU press service announced this on August 4.
The serviceman was detained at a training ground in Dnipropetrovsk region
According to the investigation, Russian special services took notice of the serviceman due to his pro-Russian publications on social media and involved him in cooperation immediately after his conscription.
The main task of the agent was to provide the GRU with information about the deployment of Ukrainian military units in the Dnipropetrovsk region. He transmitted the geolocations of his unit and other units in the region via messenger in the form of markers on Google Maps along with detailed descriptions of potential attack targets.
The detention of the GRU agent in the Ukrainian army indicates an increase in Russian influence over Ukrainian military structures and the need for enhanced counterintelligence measures to protect the national security of the country.
