Scientists have found a link between coffee, chocolate, and slowing down aging.
According to ТСН: Coffee and dark chocolate lovers have received a new argument in favor of their habits. Scientists have discovered a connection between the consumption of products rich in theobromine and the slowdown of aging processes at the cellular level.
The study involved over 1,500 people from the UK and Germany. The primary focus of the research was on theobromine, an alkaloid found in significant quantities in cocoa beans, and thus in dark chocolate. This substance can also be found in coffee and tea.
Research Results
Scientists compared the level of theobromine in the blood of participants with their molecular biomarkers of aging. The results showed that people with higher concentrations of this alkaloid had 'younger' DNA indicators.
'Our results suggest that theobromine may influence gene activity. This contributes to the aging processes.'
Precautions
However, despite the positive results, scientists warn against the danger of excessive consumption of sweets. The authors of the study emphasize that only an association has been found, not a direct cause-and-effect relationship.
This means that it is currently impossible to accurately determine how many cups of coffee or pieces of chocolate one needs to consume for guaranteed rejuvenation of the body. Many factors influence aging processes:
Genetics (DNA).
Lifestyle and behavior.
Environment.
Overall diet.
The study also has certain limitations. The level of theobromine was measured at one specific moment, rather than over a longer period. Assessing aging by biomarkers is dynamic.
'This simply means that at this moment, looking at your DNA, we assess that you seem to age slightly slower or faster than we would expect based on your chronological age.'
It should also be noted that the positive effect may be related not only to theobromine but also to its interaction with other beneficial components of chocolate or coffee that were not separately studied in this research.
Therefore, the results of this work open interesting perspectives for further research in the field of nutrition and aging but emphasize the need for caution in making dietary recommendations. At the same time, it is important to remember that a healthy lifestyle remains the key to maintaining youth and energy.
