Sheremetyevo to spend 781 million rubles on drone defense: details of the system.
According to inkorr.com: The Moscow airport 'Sheremetyevo' plans to spend millions on security measures, specifically to combat drones. As reported by the publication 'Verstka', the airport will allocate 781 million rubles for the purchase of specialized systems for detecting and countering unmanned aerial vehicles.
Equipment Expenditure
Most of these funds will go toward the acquisition of various equipment, including radar stations, detection devices, and electronic countermeasure systems. Another part of the budget is planned for the design, maintenance of the equipment, and purchasing licenses for software.
It has been stated that this initiative is aimed at increasing the safety level of the airport 'Sheremetyevo' and its surroundings, extending up to three thousand meters, from potential threats posed by drones.
Project Implementation Timeline
The implementation of this project is expected to be completed within 330 days from the signing of the contract. It is worth noting that previously, the illegal use of drones has already led to significant delays in the operations of Russian airports. For example, at Domodedovo Airport, passengers were forced to wait more than 33 hours for flights due to air traffic restrictions.
Since the beginning of 2025, Russian airports have halted their operations at least 217 times due to potential threats from drones.
The 'Sheremetyevo' airport is investing millions in modern systems to combat drones, in order to enhance safety for its passengers and staff. This initiative aims to counter the growing threats from the illegal use of unmanned aerial vehicles, which have already caused serious problems at other airports in Russia.
