Xi Jinping arrives in Moscow for a meeting with Putin
Chinese leader Xi Jinping plans to demonstrate close ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin and leverage a trade war that isolates Washington during his state visit to Moscow.
Discussions between Xi and Putin will cover issues related to the war in Ukraine, relations between Russia and the US, as well as cooperation within BRICS and the G20. Economic and energy issues will also be addressed, including the 'Power of Siberia-2' gas pipeline, and joint statements will be released.
“A key question on the agenda is what opportunities exist and how to coordinate actions between Russia and China to use these four years to undermine US hegemony,”said Alexander Gabuev, director of the Carnegie Russia Eurasia Center.
Since the onset of the crisis, Xi and Putin have strengthened trade relations, but some countries express outrage over such closeness due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. Meanwhile, Putin emphasized the 'strategic' links between Russia and China in his speech.
Tensions and ambiguous relations between China, Russia, and the US continue to be observed. However, the main issue remains the geopolitical balance of power on the world stage and the future of the world order.
