Zelensky and Trump discuss security guarantees for Ukraine: what to expect from the meeting.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha spoke about the expectations from the meeting between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and the head of the White House Donald Trump, which is scheduled for August 18. He noted that Ukraine hopes to gain understanding regarding security guarantees.
Sybiha emphasized that Ukraine expects clarity on the conditions of future security guarantees at the meeting between Zelensky and Trump, which is taking place today, August 18.
He also stressed that before the meeting in Washington, Ukraine has a coordinated and unified position with its partners regarding the end of the full-scale war. Additionally, the minister added that the Ukrainian side is ready to work on preparing for a trilateral meeting of Zelensky, Trump, and Putin.
'We welcome the efforts of the American side. And thanks to the negotiations that were conducted by President Zelensky with President Trump and European allies — we have made significant progress.
I think we can confidently say that we have a consolidated, coordinated, unified position with our allies.
Speaking about expectations from this meeting — it is further progress, a clear understanding of the parameters of future security guarantees, further work, and approaching the trilateral meeting — Zelensky, Putin, and Trump', concluded Sybiha.
