Ukraine's Foreign Minister on Medinsky's Return to Talks: Concrete Results Are the Goal.
Ukrainian Minister Comments on Negotiations with Russia
According to UATV: Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has commented on the return of Vladimir Medinsky, an aide to the Russian president, to the aggressor state's negotiation team. Sybiha stressed that Ukraine is focused on achieving concrete results from the talks, not on historical discussions, which he suggested the Russian side might try to impose.
Abu Dhabi Negotiations
Two rounds of these negotiations have taken place in Abu Dhabi. During these talks, Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the formulation of a list of demands to Russia. Among the stated demands are:
- a reduction of the Russian army;
- the return of all deported Ukrainian children.
Andrii Sybiha: 'I will be able to comment after the meeting on what the arrival of this gentleman, whom you named, signifies. But we remember very well. Previous experience shows that, as always, there will be some historical pseudo-lectures. Ukraine does not need this.'
These remarks underscore the Ukrainian side's cautious stance regarding further negotiations with Russia. The war, now in its third year, has seen numerous diplomatic efforts with limited progress.
The return of Vladimir Medinsky to Russia's negotiation group may signal the Kremlin's intent to intensify diplomatic efforts in the context of its war against Ukraine. However, the Ukrainian position remains unchanged: it seeks tangible outcomes, confirming its readiness for constructive engagement but without historical arguments and manipulations. This indicates that Ukraine is prepared to defend its interests and demands on the international stage, despite the protracted and complex situation.
