Cyberpolice warns of a new wave of fraud with the blue tick on Instagram.
According to ТСН: The blue tick on Instagram has become an important symbol for verifying the authenticity of public figures, brands, and companies' accounts. It helps distinguish real profiles from fake ones and increases user trust. However, the growing popularity of this tick has led to the emergence of fraudsters who create fake messages and websites to steal personal data and gain access to users' accounts.
The Cyberpolice has provided recommendations on how to protect your accounts from fraudulent actions.
How the fraud scheme works
Users receive messages in their email or messengers, supposedly from Meta, offering them to get a blue tick.
To obtain this privilege, users are asked to follow a link and fill out a form.
This link leads to a phishing site, resembling Instagram, where users are asked to enter their login, password, and a code from an SMS.
The entered data reaches the fraudsters, who may change the account settings, causing the owner to lose access to it.
Fraudsters may demand money to restore access to the account, but access restoration often does not happen, even after payment.
Important: Instagram never sends private messages for verification.
Is it really possible to get a blue tick?
Requests for verification can only be made through Instagram in the 'Settings' section. Replies regarding approval or denial are received exclusively in the notifications of this application within 30 days.
It is worth remembering: Instagram does not send direct messages or emails.
How to distinguish fake and protect yourself
The blue tick is a symbol but does not guarantee any special privileges.
Any message offering to get a tick should be considered suspicious.
Always check information through the official application and Instagram's help center.
Do not click on suspicious links.
Ignore direct messages about verification.
“Remember: security on Instagram depends on vigilance. Don’t let fraudsters exploit your desire to get a blue tick.”
We remind you, Instagram is implementing strict restrictions for users under 18: now AI will monitor the content.
In conditions of rising fraud, it is important to remain careful and vigilant. Users should be attentive to messages and always verify information through official channels. Social media accounts, especially on Instagram, have become an important part of our lives, so protecting personal data should be a priority for everyone.
