Every Day Dozens of Soldiers Return from AWOL, Says Ukraine’s Top Commander.
Why It Matters That Troops Come Back
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, has announced that conditions are being established to encourage soldiers who left their units to return. He stressed the importance of treating mobilized personnel with humanity, noting that a significant number of service members rejoin reserve battalions on a daily basis.
In an interview with ICTV, Syrskyi discussed the state of mobilization in Ukraine, rating the process a 6 or 7 out of 10. According to him, the primary reasons some troops abandon their posts are a reluctance to serve and fear for their own safety.
'The main cause of going AWOL is an unwillingness to serve and concerns for one’s own life,' Syrskyi stated.
How to Improve the Situation
The issue of soldiers returning requires attention, and finding ways to reduce cases of unauthorized absence is critical. Syrskyi emphasized that a humane approach to those mobilized could help improve conditions and bring greater stability to military units.
Syrskyi’s remarks highlight the ongoing challenges of mobilization in Ukraine amid the protracted conflict. Encouraging troops to return to their units could strengthen the army’s overall combat readiness and boost morale. A compassionate attitude may prove key to curbing desertions and stabilizing the situation within the armed forces.
