The New Year table for a family will cost 3980 hryvnias: what has increased in price the most.
According to ТСН: Celebrating the New Year will cost Ukrainian families an average of 3980 UAH, which is 10.7% more than last year. Although vegetable prices have decreased, the cost of meat products and non-alcoholic beverages has risen significantly.
Scientists from the 'Institute of Agricultural Economics' calculated that the New Year table with traditional dishes such as salads, meat and fish products, vegetables, fruits, baked goods, and confectionery, as well as beverages, will cost around 3980 UAH for a family of four.
The cost of the components of the New Year table
According to the calculations of the 'Institute of Agricultural Economics', the preparation of Olivier salad from a traditional set of products weighing 3 kg will cost 406.87 UAH, which is 5.8% more compared to last year. The main portion of the dish's cost is the sausage, which costs 180 UAH for 0.5 kg, which is 12.5% more, depending on the producer. However, vegetables have become significantly cheaper: potatoes (580 g) cost 8.50 UAH, carrots (280 g) — 3.18 UAH, onions (230 g) — 1.75 UAH. Other ingredients have increased in price: eggs (6 pcs) — 49.08 UAH, green peas (0.5 kg) — 62.50 UAH, pickled cucumbers (200 g) — 43.92 UAH, and mayonnaise (350 g) — 57.99 UAH.
Thanks to the decrease in vegetable prices, the cost of Herring under a Fur Coat salad (1.57 kg) will be 174.83 UAH, which is only 4% more than last year. The main part of the price is formed by herring fillet — 135 UAH for 0.5 kg. The vegetables for this salad have also become cheaper: potatoes (280 g) — 4.10 UAH, carrots (190 g) — 2.16 UAH, beets (250 g) — 2.46 UAH, onions (170 g) — 1.29 UAH.
Price increases for meat products
Throughout the year, meat product prices have increased on average by 23%. Smoked sausage 'Braunschweiger' (350 g) costs 410 UAH, baked bacon (0.5 kg) — 276 UAH, pork chop (1 kg) — 339 UAH. The price of poultry meat has increased the most, with a kilogram of chicken fillet costing about 244 UAH, which is 40% more than last year. The total cost for 2.85 kg of meat products for the festive table will be 1269 UAH.
Herring fillet (0.5 kg) will traditionally cost 135 UAH.
Dairy products have also increased in price: hard cheese (300 g) costs 176 UAH, and butter (200 g) — 118 UAH.
Prices for vegetables and fruits
The average cost of vegetables on the New Year table will be 473 UAH, which is 5% less than last year. Potatoes (2 kg) cost 29 UAH, mushrooms (1 kg) — 140 UAH, sweet peppers (0.5 kg) — 128 UAH, fresh cucumbers (0.5 kg) — 49 UAH, tomatoes (1 kg) — 127 UAH.
Fruits will cost about 200 UAH, which is 22% cheaper. Two kilograms of mandarins will cost 116 UAH, bananas (1 kg) — 62 UAH, lemon (200 g) — 22 UAH.
A loaf of white bread has increased to 35 UAH, while chocolate candies average 326 UAH per kilogram.
For beverages, a bottle of 'Artemivske' champagne (0.75 L) will cost 239 UAH, and 'Shabo' brandy aged 5 years (0.5 L) will cost 278 UAH. Non-alcoholic beverages will cost 149 UAH, which is 34% more: 'Our Juice' (950 ml) — 61.90 UAH, 'Coca-Cola' (1.75 L) — 60.80 UAH, 'Morshynska' mineral water (1.5 L) — 26.38 UAH.
Thus, the budget option for a New Year table for an average family will cost 3980 UAH, which is 10.7% more than last year.
For families planning to include delicacies in their menu, expenses will increase by about 813 UAH. A jar of red caviar (100 g) costs an average of 469 UAH, and 180 g of red fish costs about 344 UAH. Thus, a festive table with delicacies will cost 4793 UAH, which is 10.6% more than last year.
Let us remind you that the Christmas dinner with 12 dishes will cost a Ukrainian family approximately 1374 UAH. The most expensive item remains fried fish (346 UAH), followed by traditional kutya (213 UAH) and uzvar (118 UAH), while the vegetable part of the menu has significantly cheapened compared to last year.
