Father left child in car: shocking photos of the last moments of the girl's life.
According to ТСН: In the United States, photographs have emerged capturing the last moments of two-year-old Parker Sholtes, who died from heat in a locked car in Arizona. The girl was left alone in the car while her father, 38-year-old Christopher Sholtes, was at home watching adult videos.
The tragedy occurred on a July day when the temperature outside reached about +38°C. Parker was strapped in her car seat in the back of a blue 2023 Acura MDX. The vehicle was parked on the driveway about seven meters from the front door.
The child's last minutes in the heated car
According to police reports, the father left the girl in the car with the engine running and the air conditioning on. He explained that he didn't want to wake her when he returned home but then “lost track of time.” Checks revealed that the engine turned off after about 20 minutes, and the temperature inside the car began to rise rapidly.
The child was cut off from the outside world due to the scorching air. Police found traces of small hands on the glass on the side where the car seat was, indicating that the girl attempted to escape. An iPad in a pink case and small pink sandals lay on the floor beneath her feet.
Parker remained locked in the vehicle until 4:00 PM when her mother, 37-year-old Erica, an anesthesiologist, returned. She was rushed to the hospital, where death was pronounced at 4:58 PM.
Two older sisters recounted the moment when the parents realized Parker was missing. According to one of the girls, Erica entered the house and asked, “Where is the child?” In response, the father repeated the question and ran outside.
The sisters also recalled that Parker looked different: her skin was lighter and her lips were purple. Erica took her daughter out of the car and called 911.
In police documents, it is mentioned that the dress the girl was wearing was found on the kitchen floor in a wet state.
Police found it difficult to work at the scene due to the heat. They had to periodically return to the vehicles to avoid heatstroke.
What the father said
Christopher appeared at the house wearing a cap with a ring in his lip. He stated that he believed the girl had exited the car and was playing with her sisters. “I swore she was home, playing with her sisters,” he said.
However, his daughters reported that he was focused on playing PlayStation 5 while Parker was left in the car. Phone analysis showed that he was watching pornographic videos.
Erica noted that there had never been violence in their relationship, but commented that her husband had lost control. Surveillance footage confirmed he shoplifted three cans of beer from a store before the incident.
Christopher has been charged with second-degree murder. He pleaded guilty and received a sentence of 20 to 30 years with no chance of parole. He remained free until November 5, when he planned to turn himself in to prison.
On November 5, Christopher was found dead in his vehicle. Police believe he died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
This tragedy once again underscores the serious consequences of neglecting children, especially in hot weather. In such situations, it is essential to understand that even a brief lapse in attention can lead to fatal outcomes. Cases like this serve as a reminder of the need to adhere to basic safety measures in everyday life.
