Verdict against former prosecutor for fatal car accident

According to ТСН: The Holosiivskyi District Court of Kyiv has issued a ruling regarding Andrii Molokhnyi, a former prosecutor, who, driving a car under the influence of alcohol, hit a woman at the pedestrian crossing on Velyka Vasylkivska Street.

Attorney General Ruslan Kravchenko shared information about the verdict on Telegram, stating:

“7.5 years for a fatal car accident. But accountability must be fair. We requested the maximum punishment — 10 years of imprisonment, but the court decided to impose a shorter term. I consider this punishment too lenient, so the prosecution will file an appeal.”

The court established that the driver, being under the influence of alcohol, violated traffic rules: ignored the traffic sign, drove into the oncoming lane, and significantly exceeded the allowed speed limit. As a result, his car veered onto the sidewalk and struck a woman. Molokhnyi did not call for medical assistance and fled the scene. The woman died in the hospital.

The Attorney General also emphasized:

“I know one thing for sure — this tragedy could have been avoided. It happened due to absolute disregard for responsibility, through indifference and the belief in impunity.”

It is worth recalling that earlier reports indicated an incident that occurred in Kyiv on July 19 when Andrii Molokhnyi struck a woman.

This case caused significant public outcry, as it once again highlights the importance of driver responsibility on the roads. The situation related to fatal car accidents prompts discussions about tightening punishments for drivers who violate rules, especially under the influence of alcohol. The appeal by the prosecution is also expected to reflect the public's negative reaction to the court's verdict.
