Cardiologist warns: chest pain may be a sign of lung cancer.
According to ТСН: Chest pain is a common symptom that many people overlook. However, doctors warn that ignoring this signal can be dangerous if the problem is not detected and treated in time.
British cardiologist Robert Kelly points out that chest pain can be accompanied by shortness of breath and is an important symptom that should not be ignored.
“If you experience shortness of breath while climbing a hill, talking, or from any minor exertion, you need to see a doctor,” Kelly explained.
The British National Health Service (NHS) notes that shortness of breath can have both simple and serious causes.
Common and less dangerous causes of shortness of breath:
- asthma
- chest infections
- excess weight
- smoking
- panic attacks
Dangerous diseases that shortness of breath may signal:
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- lung scarring (idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis)
- heart failure
- lung cancer
Experts recommend not trying to determine the cause of shortness of breath on your own, but rather to consult a doctor right away.
It is also worth visiting a family doctor if:
- your shortness of breath worsens during regular activities or when lying down;
- you experience shortness of breath and swelling of the ankles;
- cough lasts more than three weeks.
The sooner you consult a medical professional, the higher the chances of successful treatment. Don't forget to take care of your health and regularly undergo medical examinations.
