19-year-old young man dies in lioness enclosure in Brazil: what happened at the zoo.
According to ТСН: A tragedy occurred at the Arruda Camara Zoo in Brazil: 19-year-old Gerson de Melo Machado died after climbing over a fence and entering the enclosure of a lioness. This incident shocked the visitors who witnessed the event.
According to local media, the boy descended into the pen, overcoming about six meters. Shortly after, the lioness Leona pounced on him. Zoo veterinarians noted that the animal is feeling stressed after the incident.
Zoo administration's response
The park has temporarily closed. The administration assures that the enclosure's structure meets all safety standards and even exceeds the minimum requirements. Euthanasia of the animal is not planned, and specialists continue to monitor it.
The boy's difficult story
Local services confirmed that Machado had a tough fate: he grew up under guardianship, suffered from severe mental disorders, and was fascinated by big cats. Social workers report that the boy had repeatedly tried to approach lions and even dreamed of getting to Africa as a stowaway, as he aspired to become a trainer.
Veronica Oliveira, a child protection worker who helped Machado for eight years, stated that he lived in poverty and without adequate family support. She emphasized that the boy was unaware of the dangers associated with wild animals, despite his dream of working with them. According to Oliveira, Gerson 'wanted to get to know Africa to tame lions.'
It is worth noting that photographs have recently emerged in the USA showing the last moments of two-year-old Parker Schultes, who died from heat in an overheated car in Arizona after being left in the vehicle by her father.
This tragic event once again highlights the dangers that can arise in zoos. Despite high safety standards, human factors and the desire for extreme experiences can lead to irreparable consequences. It is important to emphasize that safe coexistence with wild animals requires not only appropriate measures from zoo administrations but also awareness and understanding of the risks from visitors.
