Kyiv's Air Defenses to be Reinforced to Protect Energy Infrastructure, Following Shmyhal's Meeting.
Protecting Kyiv's Energy Grid
According to Novyny.live: On February 11, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal chaired a closed-door meeting of the Headquarters to discuss measures for strengthening Kyiv's air defenses against potential Russian attacks. The primary focus was on protecting energy facilities and other critical infrastructure. This meeting comes as Ukraine's energy sector faces sustained targeting, a key tactic in Russia's ongoing war.
During the meeting, it was noted that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reported up to 10 GW of generating capacity has been knocked out of the national grid, highlighting the severity of the situation. Furthermore, Russia has not responded to a proposal for an energy-sector ceasefire, raising additional concerns about the stability of the power system.
'Work in this direction continues,' emphasized Denys Shmyhal.
These developments occur against the backdrop of Russia's continued military aggression, which has severely impacted Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Efforts to bolster air defense and protect critical sites are vital for ensuring the stability of an energy sector that has already sustained heavy losses. The situation remains tense, and further actions by the government and military will be crucial for the security of the country's power grid.
