Winter in Ukraine will begin on December 24: forecasters provided an accurate forecast for frost and snow.

According to ТСН: At the end of this year and at the beginning of 2026, true winter with frost and snow can be expected in Ukraine.

The head of the meteorological forecasts department of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, Natalia Holenia, noted that from December 24, the temperature will start to decrease, gradually transitioning to winter mode. This cooling will be a result of the influx of cold Arctic air from the northern regions of Europe, particularly from the White Sea.

“This process will continue into the following week. That is, until New Year's and at the beginning of the next year,” emphasized the expert.

In the first days of the new year, the average daily temperature will drop below zero, confirming the arrival of true winter.

“So far this week, we expect the lowest temperatures at night - from -3° to -10°. In the left bank area in places -10...-12°, possibly even -15°, if the weather clears up. But this is already at the beginning of next week,” Holenia reported.

The daytime temperature is forecasted to range from 0° to -6°, while in the east and northeast of the country it may reach up to -9°...-10°. Holenia pointed out that on December 23, light snow is possible, but temperatures will start to drop on December 24-25 without precipitation.

“Starting from the 26th and until the end of the week, as well as the next week, it is anticipated that atmospheric fronts from the northwest will bring light to moderate snow, as well as the formation of a snow cover across Ukraine,” said Holenia.

According to her forecast, initially, light snow of 1-8 centimeters is possible, and later in some places it may reach 10-15 cm.

This year, Christmas, celebrated on December 25, will be frosty, and on Christmas Eve, sharp cooling is expected, creating a true winter atmosphere.

Forecaster Natalia Ptukha from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center also provided the weather forecast for Christmas. She emphasized that from December 24, temperatures will begin to decrease due to the influence of elevated atmospheric pressure, which will form a winter character of the weather.
