If all the majoritarian MPs of the Verkhovna Rada die due to a Russian strike, the question of the legitimacy of the Ukrainian parliament will arise. This was stated by MP Oleg Dunda in an interview with 'Apostrophe'.

The official noted that during air alerts, MPs have the same conditions as all Kyiv residents. 'They have as much Time (to reach shelter, - 'Glavkom') as an average Kyiv resident anywhere. If it is drones, it is one time, if it's ballistic missiles, then it's another. We can also be affected if we do not manage to hide,' Dunda emphasized.

He reminded that the presence of parliament is what legitimizes the power of Ukraine. 'Without the presence of parliament, there will be a huge gap in our relations with our Western partners, and the existence of power as such will be questioned. The Verkhovna Rada can be treated differently, but it is the only body, besides the president, that can appoint the Cabinet, can change legislation, because it is impossible to do it by any decrees, and therefore the absence of the Rada has very significant implications,' the people's deputy stressed.

When asked whether a new Rada could be formed after a hypothetical strike and the death of MPs from the lists of candidates compiled during the parliamentary elections in 2019, Dunda replied: 'The problem is not in the lists; they can be retrieved and the candidate-MPs can be restored. The problem is with the majoritarian MPs. And they are half of them. The quorum of the Verkhovna Rada is 300 people. Now we have 100 majoritarian MPs working; if they all die, the legitimacy of the parliament will be questioned,' the MP explained.

It should be reminded that the meeting of the Verkhovna Rada scheduled for November 22 was canceled. MPs were warned about a possible strike on the Rada in the coming days.

Later, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, commented on the 'forced day off' for parliamentarians due to reports of potential strikes on the Verkhovna Rada.
