Experts warned about the danger of boiled water: why it should not be drunk after a day.
According to ТСН: Dr. Nguyen Duy Thinh, a former lecturer at the Institute of Biotechnology and Food Technology, draws attention to a common practice in several countries - boiling water, cooling it, and using it for several days. However, experts warn that this can be dangerous, especially when new water is added to already used water.
Why standing water is not the best choice
Boiling effectively kills microorganisms and parasites, but the problem arises after storage.
During boiling, dead microorganisms break down into organic substances. Over time, they can become a "nutrient medium" for new bacteria that enter the water from the air and surrounding surfaces. Open containers increase the risk of re-contamination, especially if the water has been standing all night.
What about filtered water
A filter does not solve the storage issue. If a glass of filtered water has been left open overnight, experts also advise against drinking it. It is necessary to remember that filters should be changed in a timely manner, otherwise the quality of the water deteriorates even faster.
Many people notice that "yesterday's" water changes taste. This occurs due to the absorption of carbon dioxide from the air. Although this does not pose a danger, it signals that the water has been in contact with the surrounding environment for a long time.
How to properly store boiled water
Experts recommend:
drink cooled boiled water within one day;
do not leave water open overnight;
do not add fresh water to old;
store water in clean, sterilized glass containers;
keep the container tightly closed in a clean place.
According to Dr. Thinh, the best practice is to boil only as much water as you plan to drink in a day and not to leave it for later.
Considering the recommendations of specialists, it is important to monitor the quality of the water we consume. Improper storage can lead to the development of unwanted bacteria, which can negatively affect our health. Proper care of water is the key to safety and health, so it is worth following the experts' advice.
