Sociologists recorded an unexpected improvement in the moods of Ukrainians: what has changed

According to inkorr.com: Today, Ukrainians demonstrate their ability to adapt to difficult situations, notes the director of the Institute of Sociology of the NAS of Ukraine, Yevgen Hoholakha. Although the mood in society may not be the best, there are signs of improvement that could become a positive signal. Indeed, after a certain decline in psychological state, progress is observed in various areas, which is important for strengthening the psychological resilience of the nation.

After 2022, when there was a great surge of enthusiasm and the highest ratings in the history of independence, we saw a gradual decline. In the second half of 2023, after an unsuccessful counteroffensive, it got even worse in 2024. But in 2025, it is already better than last year.

Hoholakha emphasizes that this improvement has become possible due to the natural ability of Ukrainians to adapt to harsh conditions. However, along with this, the number of people experiencing distress is increasing, which negatively affects their health and overall well-being.

Losses due to the war

It is known that about 20% of Ukrainians have not experienced personal losses due to the conflict, while the majority felt losses of loved ones, housing, jobs, or businesses. According to a survey by the Razumkov Center, there is a prevalent sense among Ukrainians of readiness for peace with Russia in exchange for a neutral and non-nuclear status for the country. Most are also willing to endure the war for as long as necessary, according to the results of research by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology.

Thus, Ukrainians continue to demonstrate their ability to adapt to hardships, and although the psychological state of society is improving, some are still experiencing distress due to the impact of the war on their lives. The development of the nation's psychological resilience and the desire for peace under acceptable conditions are important.
