German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called opposition leader Friedrich Merz to discuss the situation surrounding Ukraine after the incident at the negotiations between the President of Ukraine and the President of the United States. This was reported by the Südeutsche Zeitung.

According to the German publication, Scholz and the likely successor discussed the scandal in the White House and its consequences for support for Ukraine. The publication notes that the dramatic events in Washington have changed the usual order of things - Merz has to be more involved in international issues during the transitional period.

The spokesman for the German government, Steffen Hebestreit, previously stated that both politicians do not plan to participate in joint international events. Only Scholz will travel to the meeting in London on March 2. The last Time Scholz and Merz met was last Tuesday in Berlin.

Both German politicians have already reacted to the events in Washington on social media. 'No one desires peace more than the citizens of Ukraine. Ukraine can count on the support of Germany and Europe,' wrote Scholz. Merz assured 'dear Volodymyr of support for Ukraine in both good and challenging times.'
