Scholz again refused to supply Ukraine with Taurus.
The Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, has once again opposed the supply of long-range weapons to Ukraine, explaining this by the need to avoid a conflict between NATO and Russia. This was reported by n-tv.
During the Brandenburg SPD delegates conference in Potsdam, Scholz emphasized that under his leadership, Germany has become Ukraine's second-largest military partner. However, he continues to believe that supplying long-range weapons would be a mistake.
However, I remain convinced that it would be a mistake if the long-range weapons we provided to Ukraine were used for strikes deep inside Russia, or if we supply weapons capable of doing just that
He emphasized that a conflict between NATO and Russia must be prevented at all costs.
And if no one but us has sufficient prudence to make reasonable decisions, then that is how it should be
It should be noted that Olaf Scholz, in his first election speech, stated that Ukraine's desire to receive German long-range Taurus missiles is 'playing Russian roulette with Germany's security.'
Earlier, Olaf Scholz announced the transfer of another 17 Iris-T systems to Ukraine, which the Ukrainian Armed Forces accepted. According to Scholz, Germany ordered another 22 Iris-T systems from Diehl Defence GmbH & Co. KG. Five of them will be used by the Bundeswehr, and 17 will be transferred to Ukraine. It was noted that seven previously delivered similar Iris-T systems helped shoot down over 250 Russian missiles and drones. Four systems will be sent by the end of the year, and the rest starting next year, said the German Chancellor.
It is worth mentioning that most German lawmakers wish for the country to supply Ukraine with long-range Taurus missiles.
Furthermore, the German government has developed an action plan for the event of war, which includes a possible evacuation of the population, mandatory service for conscripts, and other measures. Authorities presented a new military plan called 'Framework Directive on General Defense,' which outlines the measures to be taken during military conflict.
