Military Court Convicts Soldier for Faking Wife's Disability Documents.
Fraud Within the Military System
According to Novyny.live: A soldier from the Odesa region has been found guilty of fraud for forging his wife's disability certificate. The serviceman, who served as a driver in a logistics and support unit, used the fake document to secure an early discharge and receive a financial payout. This case highlights ongoing challenges with fraud in Ukraine's military, which can divert critical resources during a time of national defense.
In the autumn of 2024, the soldier submitted a report to his unit commander requesting discharge due to family circumstances, falsely claiming his wife had a Group II disability. To support his claim, he provided a counterfeit medical-social expert commission (MSEC) certificate. As a result, he was discharged from service and received a one-time monetary assistance payment exceeding 12,000 hryvnias.
The Court's Verdict
The court sentenced the soldier to five years in prison. However, the sentence was suspended with a two-year probationary period. The convicted man was also ordered to repay the full amount of the state benefits he fraudulently obtained. Additionally, the court levied a fine of over 7,000 hryvnias to cover the cost of expert examinations conducted during the investigation. This incident serves as another example of fraudulent schemes targeting military administration.
This case underscores the serious problem of fraud within military structures, which can negatively impact resources and undermine trust in the system.
