Fire at Animal Shelter in Billings
In the city of Billings, Montana, a fire broke out at an animal shelter due to the burning of two pounds of methamphetamine confiscated by the FBI. The smoke from the drug infiltrated the building, resulting in several workers suffering from poisoning and being hospitalized. The shelter's director reported that employees experienced severe headaches, sore throats, dizziness, increased sweating, and coughing. Staff members had to spend several hours in an oxygen chamber, but some symptoms persisted. A total of 14 workers and 75 animals were evacuated, including four litters of kittens.A representative of the FBI confirmed that external objects were used to destroy the drugs but declined to comment on the specific circumstances. FBI agents present at the shelter were also hospitalized, while the supervisor of the animal control department chose not to seek hospitalization. In this situation, the response of services to the threat is crucial. As the case in Billings illustrates, even extremely dangerous drugs can provoke serious consequences not only for people but also for animals. The situation highlights the need for careful monitoring of the processes for disposing of hazardous substances to prevent similar incidents in the future.Read also
