The USA has suspended immigration from 19 countries: what is known about the new restrictions

According to ТСН: The United States of America has announced a temporary suspension of the processing of immigration applications submitted by individuals from 19 countries.

This decision is related to the improvement of verification mechanisms aimed at reducing risks to national security. The government is currently working on new criteria for evaluating applicants.

The U.S. government on Tuesday suspended the processing of all immigration applications from 19 countries in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, the statement said.

The introduction of new immigration restrictions, according to President Donald Trump’s administration, is a matter of national security that arose after an attack on National Guard soldiers in Washington. The suspect, a citizen of Afghanistan, has been detained.

Strengthening migrant verification

According to the recently approved policy, all individuals applying for entry into the U.S. from the countries listed in the relevant decree must undergo a detailed verification procedure. The exact timeline for this process has yet to be determined, and it is not ruled out that the list of countries subject to these restrictions may be expanded.

U.S. officials have emphasized that the main goal of this initiative is to ensure the stability of the immigration system and to eliminate possible "security loopholes." However, critics express concern that these actions may lead to legal uncertainty for thousands of applicants during the review of their cases.

The strictest restrictions apply to Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen, for citizens of which entry has been completely suspended since June with some exceptions.

In other listed countries — Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela — partial restrictions have been introduced, requiring a more thorough verification of applicants.

It is worth noting that some of these countries have already been subject to partial or complete entry bans to the U.S. in previous periods.

Recall that earlier we wrote about how U.S. President Donald Trump stated that his administration would "permanently suspend" migration from all "third world countries."

This news reflects the continuation of the tough immigration policy of the Trump administration aimed at reducing the flow of migrants and increasing the level of security in the country. With the introduction of new restrictions, especially for high-risk countries, an additional burden is created for thousands of people hoping for a new life in America. The government’s further steps will undoubtedly provoke a wide reaction both in the U.S. itself and abroad.
