USA offers $10 million for information on a Russian Telegram channel.
The US government is offering a reward of $10 million for information that will help track the employees of the Russian Telegram channel «Rybar» and their whereabouts. They say that the channel may be involved in attempts to influence elections in the US. This is reported by Bloomberg with reference to the US State Department's Rewards for Justice program.
They say that this Telegram channel seeks to «enhance Russia's military capabilities and promote pro-Russian and anti-Western narratives». It is claimed that it was supported by the deceased owner of the private military company «Wagner» Yevgeny Prigozhin, and is funded by the sanctioned state corporation «Rostec».
Furthermore, «Rybar» «promotes the political interests of the Russian government» in the US through the hashtags #HOLDTHELINE and #STANDWTHTEXAS, as well as a social media account on X called «TEXASvsUSA», which aims to «foster social division, incite party and racial discord, encourage hatred and violence» in the US ahead of the presidential elections.
In September, the US government had already mentioned that Moscow spent millions of dollars to influence upcoming presidential elections. For «the covert dissemination of Russian government propaganda», the Kremlin created several dozen web domains.
The owner of the Telegram channel Mikhail Zvinchuk recorded a video response to the announcement of the reward for information about «Rybar». He denied that his channel is used to influence elections in the US and provided his registration address in Moscow. He also stated that he now expects the promised payment from the US government.
It is worth noting that Russia has intensified its attempts to influence elections in the USA, specifically by trying to shape results in favor of former President Donald Trump. According to data provided during a briefing for journalists by a representative of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence of the USA, Russia's actions have become more sophisticated compared to previous electoral cycles. This is reported by The Washington Post.
It has also been announced that next week, US Vice President Kamala Harris will for the first Time join former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama during pre-election events.
US Elections: What will happen on November 5
By the way, voters in the US will go to the polls on November 5 to elect the next president. Initially, the elections were expected to be a rematch between Democrat Joe Biden and Republican Donald Trump, who previously ran for president in 2020. But in July, the situation changed: Biden withdrew from the race and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris.
Furthermore, on September 10, US presidential candidate from the «Democrats» Kamala Harris and presidential candidate from the «Republicans» Donald Trump participated in the presidential debates organized by ABC News.
